MasterCard® Debit Card with Chip Technology
Small but Mighty
There is nothing more important to us than our customers, which is why we're proud to introduce new debit cards with chip technology. Embedded in the debit card is a tiny chip that helps prevent fraud by encrypting transaction and cardholder information each and every time an in-person transaction takes place.
It will look and feel just like the debit card you're used to, but the protection you receive from chip cards is much better. We take seriously the trust our customers place in us, and these new debit cards are part of our ongoing commitment to be a community partner with you.
How to Use It
Chip cards operate a bit differently than the traditional "swipe" cards. When make a transaction, instead of sliding your card down the magnetic strip reader you "dip" your card in the bottom of the terminal, wait a few seconds while the chip processes the payment, and then remove. The process takes a few moments longer but delivers far superior security.
If you are at a merchant who isn't able to process a chip-card, go ahead and "swipe" your card. It may take some time before each and every place you shop offers the ability to use a chip card, but online and telephone purchases will work the same as they did with the old cards.
